Below as as many of the Audible recommendations that I can remember. Do also bear in mind that if it's books that you want rather than Audio books, you can go the bookshop here.
Society and Economy
Medieval People (Unabridged) by Eileen Power
There are so many general histories of England and Britain, that this page could go on forever. So I have selected just the few that have meant the most to me over the years.
History of the English Speaking World by Winston Churchill
It was never considered out of the historians top drawer, and now looks ever more dated as the whig view of history slips further below the salt. Buit it is Winston Churchill - so it's terribly interesting to hear what he says.
The History of Britain by Simon Scharma
There is something about Simon Scharma that I particularly like, an interesting take on traditional events, and an interesting insight into things you'd ignored.
Political and Biography
London: A biography by Peter Ackroyd
Peter Ackroyd is well known as a novelist, journalist and non fiction writer. As a professional writer his books as always engaging a easy to access. The story of London in someways is a story of England too - much as we might have to admit it. The book is in several volumes, all listed below.
Histories outside England
A Shorter History of Australia (Unabridged) by Geogffrey Blainey
In the Shadow of the Sword (Unabridged) By Thomas Holland
This caused quite a stir; but is a fascinating story about the rise and spread of Islam. Highly recommended.
General stuff I just like
