George Earl

Hello, let me introduce myself. My name is George (a good English name I guess!) and I am a 7th grade Social Studies teacher in Michigan, U.S.A. I have been listening to the podcast for about a year and am finally caught up! I really enjoy it and think you do a great job, David. This website helps a lot too. By the way, I must mention that my last name is Earl. That is no joke, it really is so I imagine some day I can come to England and claim some land. Some good friends of ours last name is Kent, so go figure! David, you have been my companion as I wash the dishes, travel in the car, and do other things that require cerebral stimulation, and I thank you. I also must mention that I have relatives in England, one of which had a brother who wrote speeches for Tony Blair, cool! I enjoy your English wit too. "Mad as a box of cheese" and "faster than you can say 'Jack Robinson'".....always gives me a chuckle. While it is often hard to follow all the detail, the overall narrative comes out pretty clearly. Keep up the good work and I will be back to comment! Nice to meet you.

The History of England

Hi George, and thanks for getting in touch; I'm delighted that you are enjoying it!

I look forward to your investiture as earl of Kent! - proud successor to Odo of Bayeux...it might be that all you can claim are the Earl's pence rather than land, but it's a start!
