This Sceptred Isle is a 5 part series giving the story of Britain. It's done properly, with excellent narrators, Anna Massey and Christopher Lee - proper narrators, but some bloke in a shed. It's nowhere near as detailed as the History of England - but if you just want the big picture and the story - then it's great.
